41th study session of the ADMEE-Canada
Assessment and Learning: Which Combinations?
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 41th session of the Association pour le développement des méthodologies d’évaluation en éducation (ADMEE-Canada), which will take place on November 13, 14 and 15, 2019, at the OTL Gouverneur Sherbrooke, 3131 King Street West, Sherbrooke, Quebec, J1L 1C8.
This year, we chose the theme Assessment and Learning: Which Combinations? This study session aims to highlight the cross-cutting nature of assessment at all levels of education (preschool-primary, secondary, college, university and continuing education) and all areas of study and training (education, health, science and engineering, humanities and social sciences, arts, etc.). Wherever it is carried out, and particularly in competency-based programs and vocational programs, assessment must cover both the sanction of learning and be a support for learning. While assessment of learning emphasizes the formulation of judgments at the end of a learning sequence, assessment for learning focuses on the regulation of learning throughout training.
What are the possible combinations of assessment of learning and assessment for learning? How do these forms of assessment affect each other? How are they shaped by educational innovations, the use of digital technology or the implementation of competency-based programs at all levels of education and/or vocational programs in higher education? What are the different methodologies associated with each of these assessment forms (tools, information collection, data analysis, etc.)? What about their validity? When to assess? What should be considered in for normative and/or criterion-based decision-making? How should we combine the different functions and assessment methods to make a decision about progress and achieving expectations? These are examples of questions that this study session will focus on. This theme is open to contributions from the field of testing and assessment in education and a variety of disciplines, including pedagogy in health professions education and in higher education. Another topic of this 41st study session will be measurement-related issues. Researchers, students, practitioners and professionals from various testing and assessment backgrounds and from various fields (education, health, science and engineering, humanities and social sciences, arts, etc.) are invited to submit a proposal for a presentation or a symposium, in English or in French. This 41st study session will thus be a rewarding occasion for colleagues from different backgrounds to share knowledge and discuss their experiences.
We will also hold a preconference on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the main campus of Université de Sherbrooke. This preconference day is devoted to training and exploration workshops (half-day or full-day) and will be an opportunity to discuss topics such as data analysis with specialized software, construction and validation of measurement instruments, challenges related to teaching and learning of testing and assessment, etc.
We look forward to seeing you in Sherbrooke on November 13, 14 and 15!
